| The members and volunteers of the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII have quite unique ambitions. When they leave everything and take off for a life of mission in other lands, they make a clear choice: to share their lives with the very least considered of the world. Entire families, fathers, mothers and their children make a choice to live their daily lives the way the poor are forced to live. In fact, by just being together, day after day, they start to understand and experience firsthand the true needs of these people. The relationships that develop between the volunteers and the local people are very special relationshipsindeed, relationships of mutual trust, cooperation and sharing, and not that of dependence. As Father Oreste believed “There is a great difference between service and sharing.”The Community is a direct witness to the injustice of poverty and, as a result, chooses to become the voice of the voiceless. |
