Since 2006, the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII (“Community Pope John 23rd”) has been granted Special Consultative Status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Dr. Maria Mercedes Rossi is a permanent representative of the Community within the United Nations. She is a medical doctor and member of the Community, who has lived as a missionary in Africa for twenty years alongside malnourished children and AIDS patients.
Our role within the United Nations is to be a spokesperson for the poor people of the world with a committed representative from the Community taking an active role in meetings where international leaders make critical decisions on the welfare of humanity, hence becoming a voice for the voiceless
