  • What is the factor that, for 25 years has driven married couples, entire families, young volunteers and members of the Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII (“Community Pope John 23rd”) to share their lives directly with the poor?

Who are these missionaries? Are they saints? heroes? adventurers?

"Mission Possible!" is a play which describes the uniqueness of the Community’s volunteers in the lands of mission: people who leave everything, often with their whole family, to share their daily lives directly with the poor, to ease the loneliness and abandonment of the least considered of society, and to fill the emptiness of their stomachs and their souls.

This play pulls down the idea of the missionary as a "hero" – in fact, it shows that anyone can devote their life to others. Adelmo, the main character, is an aspiring missionary, ready to save the world and leave everything to pursue his ideals of justice. At the airport, while he is waiting to leave for his mission, his certainties start to crumble and doubts start to arise. Will a speaker, a flight attendant and a large family be able to help Adelmo find the right motivation to leave?

"Mission Possible!" is the brainchild of the volunteers working in Mission Services and is staged by the Community’s Theatre Group. It is an opportunity to raise the awareness of the missionary activities started 25 years ago by Father Oreste as well as the initiative "A meal a day ", which aims to feed the 41,000 people who seek the Community’s help around the world, through the food centers and canteens, emergency first-aid centres, Family Homes and other 500 aid bases.
